10-03-2013 Sailing & Yaroslavi

LAT Post

Most of yesterday was sailing.  We did stop in Yaroslav a village along the river.  We visited a church with very very old icons.  It was interesting how some of these fresco's manage to last as long as they do.  The church walls were covered with the paintings that told a story about the saint the church was named after.  We then went to the governors house that was converted to an art museum. The guide in the house was a nice young lady that later joined-some of her piers to dance some dances that are traditional to the area.  They then would grab folks from the tourist group to dance with....I hid!  We then did a little shopping but none of us found much.  Back for more sailing dinner then early to bed.

Lots of sailing again today - Passed several town.  Stopped in the middle of the Volga for refueling.  Hopefully there will be bagel restocking also.

Weather is supposed to be 45 degrees this afternoon.  We are visiting the governors mansion and a farmers market.  It was, however, snowing this AM while we had coffee on the Promenade deck.

Made a call to Portland, very clear connection.  Saw the Russian history presentation on Gorbachev.  Tomorrow will be about Putin.

Heard the commercial from cruise director on upcoming trips.  They are pushing Potugal and China.  Not sure either.

Yaroslavl was ok the governors palace had people in costumes dancing the waltz and polonaise, wanted people from our group to participate.

They sold Russian lacquer boxes there.  Very expensive!!  (In the high hundreds of dollars).

Tomorrow is Uglich.  Tea in Russian homes early departure from ship!
